Giant Clams lie among the shallows of coral reefs. Basking in the sun they absorb energy from the sunlight, this energy feeds the algae that lives within the mantle of the clam and gives the amazing colours seen here. Clams come in an amazing variety of colours, which varies dependent on the algae that is present in that region. Giant clams of Ningaloo are generally not found as large as their Pacific cousins with this clam being around 200mm long.
