One of Nature's most amazing wonders... Pink Lakes.

Salt water, often times seeping in from the nearby ocean, is warmed by the sun in shallow vast flats that promote evaporation, which in turn increases the water's salinity. This is the perfect environment for an algae called Dunaliella salina and as it thrives the water goes pink, not because of the colour of the algae but from the fact that when exposed to sunlight, the algae produces beta-carotene.Shades, hues and colour intensity varies not just through the year but also can change greatly on any given day, dependent on wind effect, angle of the sun and clarity of the sky.
