The waters of the Southern Ocean, although quite cold, are some of the clearest and most blue of all the seas surrounding Australia. Add to that the clean fine sands of Western Australia’s southern coastline and it all makes for arguably some of the most amazing beaches in all the World.
In places, where coastal reef-lines retain tidal sand flats, the mix of tidal movement and wave action causes shallow strong water flows over the sands resulting in living natural water-sand sculptures moving in real time. At first light on a mild sea morning, with a breeze opposing the water flow, I spent quite a while attempting to ‘capture’ the water rush over the sand in one still moment in time, and this was my ultimate result on the freeze of motion of the ripples and waves.
