Nabberu is the Malgana people's indigenous word for "small lake" and this unique landscape of peninsulas and isthmus that make up Shark Bay region have many of them.
These lakes often contain a hyper-salinity water that has been created as the hot sun evaporates the shallow expanses of seawater when they repeatedly fill and discharge into the bigger lagoons and bays. This in turn leaves channels and salt deposits that in turn, create magnificent patterns when viewed from above.
This is an incredibly harsh and windswept coastline that can seem quite desolate and yet at the same time it is beautiful and breath taking, especially when Nature finally grants you perfect conditions, even if it is only for an hour or so.
