Exploring the reefs of that other Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Belize in Central America, I came across what at first glance appeared to be patterned rocks. Examining them through my macro lens revealed a minuscule landscape resembling river deltas viewed from space. This was the incredibly detailed and beautiful surface of a red encrusting sponge that would have been nearly invisible without my lens and underwater flash.
