After carefully climbing into the water and making as little splash as possible, I looked around for the whaleshark we had seen from the boat. I spied it in the distance and then it turned towards me and started swimming in my direction. After it came almost straight up to me, I swam at first alongside and then over the top of its wide head. The pattern on its back reminded me of an indigenous painting or the stars of the Milky Way at night. Existing in most tropical waters they are found off WA at Ningaloo Reef and Christmas Island.
