Spotted eagle rays are found globally in tropical waters and each year, just off the island of Saipan, many gather together on a small section of reef to "hang out". It is not entirely known why they return each year to do this but they have been counted in numbers of up to sixty, all just stationary in the current. To swim in proximity during such an event is a gift from nature and I was in awe of the ease with which these graceful creatures handled a current that was incredibly taxing on my own cumbersome human design.
