Sabella are a species of filter feeders that live on the sea bed and among coral reefs. The spiral pattern created by the filter feeding fronds of these creatures is a classic example of mathematics defining the beauty within nature. This spiral can be explained as a sequence of Fibonacci numbers that create an ever expanding ratio often referred to as the golden ratio, it is the most recurring ratio within nature everywhere and is considered the most pleasing ratio to the human eye. Photographing these tiny wonders that are about 3-4 centimeters across is challenging as once they sense the flash from your camera they withdraw quicker than the blink of an eye.
