The close up detail of this clam resembles an ethereal flow within some giant canyon. Clams lie among the shallows of coral reefs all around the world. Basking in the sun they absorb energy from sunlight, this energy feeds the algae that lives within the mantle of the clam and gives the amazing colours seen here. These colours vary dependent on the algae that is present in that region. Giant clams can be found in Ningaloo Reef and right across the top of Australia as well as out into Indonesia and the Pacific Islands.
