Ascidians are one of the most simple and yet attractive creatures in the worlds oceans. Despite how plant-like they appear, they are actually animals. Commonly called sea squirts, they filter water in vast amounts through their bodies. Looking closely through the lens revealed the incredible filter mechanism inside each separate ascidian. Each individual creature here is approximately 10mm long. The orange background colour is caused by the large sponge they were growing alongside.
